    My school traumatized me with moodboards. I know how useful they are, but every time I have to make one I just want to get it over with as soon as possible and never look at it again 🙁

    I have a question for you.

    You probably get asked this from time to time.

    What are your thoughts on Graphic Design Schools?

    I am a community college student in Pennsylvania, USA.

    I study illustration and graphic design.

    I am learning a lot in school.

    So much in fact, that I want to start freelance design business after school.

    Take in mind, I am 32 years of age and have worked every crappie job under their sun and decided to go back to school after realizing that art was my passion.

    I am getting good at my craft.

    However, a lot of people say that you have to attend University to become involved in the field.

    My college professors seem to be much more honest about it and say that most artists don't even have a degree and they do just fine.

    What are your thoughts on this?

    Is a degree necessary or is the portfolio more important than the degree?

    I am working toward a degree in college but I hear that some people feel pressured to go to University even though they cannot afford it.

    Neither can I.

    I have no desire to attend University as the ones near me have hundreds of students in a classroom where as my community college classroom sizes are 8 to 20 people.

    I feel much more comfortable in a small classroom size anyways.

    So that is why I ask.

    I've made digital moodboards a few times but found it definitely helps to see the design on paper before sending it off for feedback. Plus sometimes it's just nice to work with physical objects not digital space. Going to need to buy a printer…
