Complete novice trying this today and thought I'd go online to see how the pro's do it. I think I actually stumbled on a better way by sheer luck! I offset 2 white copies of my text and selected both, then clicked make mask in the transparency panel. Then I just clicked options hoping to get a result. Luckily invert mask = on & clip = off worked. The handy thing is that it is still fully editable by just selecting the mask and nudging it around. – WIth the method shown in this vid you would have to completely redo the whole thing to make adjustments to the 'shadow' width.

Why not just do a drop shadow and then add a white outside stroke to word?

i did this right one…..and later on like 6 months later,i came back here to try it again and I've tried it 9 damn times everything went good until i got to the pathfinder subtract part and it didnt work!!!!! what went wrong????

  17. ksanders308 Avatar

idk why but whenever I tried to do minus front it wouldn't do anything. but I had watched your other video so I locked the center of the offset then selected all and hit minus front and it worked. Keep the videos coming, I am loving it!

I DONT UNDERSTAND WHICH FUNCTIONALITY YOU ARE USING WHEN YOU SAY KEBOARD SHORTCUT WITHOUT CLICKING IN THE MENU. I MEAN … I NEED TO FIND THE BOTTON IN THE MENU, IF NOT I CANT MEMORIZE THE CORRESPONDENT KEYBOARD SHORTCUT TO THE FUNCTIONALITY THAT I SHOULD USE

hey thanks for this neat tutorial. How do you select only the offset path? I'm using CS6 and whenever I create an offset path Illustrator auto-selects both the offset and letter path for me.
